To celebrate EA’s newest rendition of its legendary game, Soccer Post is back with another playlist. Blur - Song 2 (EA Sports FIFA 98)
“Woohoo!” The first real EA FC anthem in the game, from 1998. A post-goal celebration in big club stadiums to this day, Blur’s hit could make fans dance, get fired up, or throw their controllers. It was the perfect start to what is now the most played sports video game of all time.
Caesars Palace - Jerk It Out (EA Sports FIFA 04)
FIFA 04’s top song ‘Jerk It Out’ by Caesars Palace toned down the aggression of Blur just a bit, yet had a riff that scratched the brain just right. And the “You feel it runnin' through your bones” segment is sung at watch parties worldwide.
Smallpools - Dreaming (EA Sports FIFA 14)
Prime Lionel Messi in his Barcelona kit on the cover, and this hit blasting in your headset at all times. A bit more groove to its overall sound, Smallpool’s ‘Dreaming’ was optimism in a song, and took center stage while young stars James Rodriguez, Antoine Griezmann, and Marquinhos prepared for their first World Cup in Brazil. Beck - Dreams (EA Sports FIFA 16)
That first guitar riff. The ‘Woah’ melody throughout the song that got you ready to play a friend or start Career mode. Unlike its predecessors, FIFA 16’s top hit sent chills down the spine like you were coming out of the tunnel yourself.
Glass Animals - Heat Waves (EA Sports FIFA 21)
A staple in EA’s all-time discography. Not the typical loud, in-your-face songs mentioned above, but a chill, calm sound that took the intensity out of picking your starting XI and formation. Ask any fan of the game, and they’ll know ‘Late nights in the middle of June.’
Piri, Tommy Villiers - nice 2 me (EA Sports FC 24)
The chillest of any song on this list. Lo-Fi enough to keep gamers hyperfocused, but fast-paced enough to help them picture carving up defenses with their wingers. The perfect combination of sound and tone, and in a way, a pillar of the music we’re bound to hear in the game down the line.
