What Is A Pro Nameset?

A pro nameset is not generic lettering. It’s the official typeface a league or club actually uses, in the correct material, laid out according to specific guidelines. The league sets the font; for example, the English Premier League has a standardized font, and La Liga has its own. The guidelines specify letter height, spacing, and color options. Even whether your name curves across the shoulders or runs straight is already decided. It’s not necessarily a stylistic choice; it’s a spec. 

How Leagues Handle It.

As stated before, each league runs its own font, and every club has to use it. The Premier League, for example, has standardized its fonts since 1997, with the current design being only the fourth redesign in league history. MLS works the same way, with one singular typeface shared across the league, built on its signature layered tri-line effect and detailed enough to include a condensed version made for players with long surnames. However, although MLS teams must use a standard font, exceptions do occur. Inter Miami’s 2026/27 Third Kit, for example, features a new blocky typeface that fits its Miami Vice-like aesthetic. 

Cup and European Fonts.

Here’s the part most people don’t know! A club doesn’t have to wear the same typeface all season. Depending on the regional tournaments a club participates in, they may play many games without their standard league printing. This happens only when they participate in domestic cups and European nights. Since these instances aren't tied to their respective leagues, they can use their signature bespoke font; in other words, a font of the club’s own creation! Liverpool, for example, recently introduced a new club font this season. PSG’s cup font pulls straight from their European run in the mid-90s. So before you order, decide which kit version you’re building!

Official printing also acts as a means to protect the jersey you just paid for. Collectors, for example, consistently value jerseys with official, licensed namesets higher over generic aftermarket printing.
