Did you know that you could sweat up to 10 liters of water in a full day of activity? 

 

Hydration is so important because of that exact reason. Being dehydrated can lead to headaches, low blood pressure, fevers and even trips to the hospital. Avoid all of that by drinking your water, eight 8-ounce glasses throughout the entire day, not at one time, should do the trick to remain hydrated. 

 

When participating in a physical activity like running, playing soccer, riding bikes, it is important to drink water before and after. 

 

Drinking water before your physical activity will allow you to concentrate better, increase your endurance, allow your body temperature to remain level and optimize your performance. Drinking water after your physical activity will help replenish any fluids lost and help muscle recovery.

How Do I Know If I'm Dehydrated?

 

Being dehydrated can start off with being extremely thirsty, but if it goes untreated it can become dangerous. Here’s how to know if you have become hydrated.

 

  1. Headaches
  2. Breathing fast
  3. Fever
  4. Little to no urine or dark color urine
  5. Drowsiness / dizziness

 

Dehydration can come in three different levels: mild, moderate and severe. Mild can be treated at home while moderate might end in a hospital visit. Severe is considered a life-threatening emergency. 

 

Tips to Stay Hydrated

 

The easy answer is drink your water, but it is easier said than done sometimes. 

 

  1. If you are struggling to remember to sip on water throughout the day, make an effort to drink one glass of water with every meal. 
  2. Use liquid water enhancers like miO, Clear Theory, etc. Using these allows you to add flavor to your water, but should not be used in excessive amounts. 
  3. Having a reusable water bottle you are able to carry around with yourself is the perfect place to start. There are many different choices for reusable water bottles, there is no correct answer to which one you should buy. 

Using a reusable water bottle is convenient because of the different sizes. If you are really struggling to drink water, you can get a bigger size like a 64 oz jug. There are other options like 40 oz and 24 oz jugs.
