Which Soccer Cleat Silo Fits You Properly?

Which Soccer Cleat Silo Fits You Properly?

By: Gabrielle Nordstrom

Buying properly fitted soccer cleats is not as easy as it seems, but we are here to help! Depending on your foot shape and which of your skills you want to enhance, you need to learn the different silos offered by the major brands. While this guide can point you toward finding cleats for your foot shape, shopping in-store and getting fitted by one of our expert associates is always your best bet!

You have a few options if you tend to have a wider foot. If you prefer to wear the Nike brand, there are two options depending on where your foot is wider. The Nike Phantom is generally wider in the front of the foot and toes, whereas the Tiempo is wider in the midfoot back to the heel. The Tiempo used to be the wider of the Nike options but has gotten narrower in recent years. If you like adidas, Predators are going to be the widest of their three silos.

In many cases, getting leather shoes will benefit a wider foot than synthetic shoes as the leather will stretch more. Some options you have are adidas Copa Mundial and Diadora. The Copa Icon or Copa Gloro are good options if the Copa Mundial is too old-school for you. The Icon and Gloro are more modern, lightweight options than the Mundial. These two cleats are made with genuine leather that molds to your foot shape. They tend to run a little larger, so stop in and get fitted! Depending on what brand you prefer to wear, any other leather options could also be suitable for players with wide feet.

The last option is New Balance; these may be your best choice for extra wide feet. 442 and other New Balance shoes come with a wide version of the cleats available. Ask your Soccer Post associate for availability.

How narrow is your foot? A “standard fit” cleat typically fits a narrow foot well, and many shoes built for speed are narrow. Some of these cleats include Nike Mercurial and adidas F50s.

It is also better to consider a cleat with laces than without. With laces, you have more control over the tightness of the shoe to your foot. If you can find that perfect fit, laceless can feel more like a sock than a shoe, which some players prefer.

Getting a pair of shoes that fit your size and foot shape may not be enough for the Proper Fit. Insoles and grip socks can help you marry your boots to your feet so they become one.

Insoles

Factory insoles have little to no support and are very flat. Soccer Post Fit insoles are made to support the natural shape of your foot and arch and offer more comfort. With three arch height options available, everyone can customize their fit. Soccer Post Fit insoles are designed to work perfectly in soccer cleats.

If used correctly, insoles can be a great addition to a cleat. They can provide a more secure fit, prevent slipping, and give you more comfort and support. The point of insoles is to improve your comfort and experience, so if you are uncomfortable with them, they are not the right fit for you. Lux Grip Socks

Grip socks provide some of the same benefits to insoles, hey provide another layer of comfort and stability to the player. Because of the improvements in traction, the player will not slip in the cleat or on the field as much when wearing grip socks. Used by professional players around the world, grip socks have become essential for high-performance players.

While grip socks can not fix an improperly fitted boot, they can adjust minor imperfections in the fit. In wide cleats, grip socks can enhance comfort by filling small spaces where the cleat does not fit perfectly. Because of the socks' sweat-wicking ability, if the inside of the cleat or your foot is wet because of weather conditions or sweat, the foot will not move around in the cleat. If you wear regular socks in a loose-fitting cleat, the foot can slide slightly, causing discomfort or even blisters.

For narrow feet, grip socks can also be just as valuable. Grip socks come with more padding than regular socks. The extra padding can provide more comfort if the cleat feels too tight or puts pressure on one part of the foot. The increased stability can improve your traction and control on the field.

All feet are different, so some of these accessories may not be right for you, but they are great options to help you find the Proper Fit.
