Essentials
Soccer players need a few things, no matter the time of year. That list includes soccer cleats, shin guards, a soccer ball, a water bottle or jug, socks—luxe grip or regular—Soccer Post Fit insoles, a bag, and Soccer Post Fresheners.
Before you step on the field, make sure your cleats, shin guards and socks are in good condition and fit properly. It’s also a good idea to grab a new soccer ball, water bottle, and fresheners for the new season.
If you are unsure what size cleats, shin guards or ball you should purchase, our store workers can help you!
Goalkeeper
Goalkeepers require a few more essentials than field players. Before the season starts, double-check that you have your game gloves, practice gloves, and goalkeeping jersey! Having two pairs of gloves at all times is essential. Your best quality pair should be kept for games, while your practice pair can be lower quality and a bit beat up. It is also always best to have a backup pair, just in case. These three items are the most important; otherwise, you might not be able to play in the game or practice.
Some other good items to grab before the season are sliding shorts, glove wash and GloveGlu.
Training Day
You will have the most practice days out of anything, so it’s no surprise that there are a lot of items to prepare for your first practice.
First things first, grab extra pairs of everything. You might think you have enough, but you probably don’t. Trust us on this one.
Start by grabbing a base layer, including compression tops and leggings. You might not need these every day, but having them is important. Shorts, socks, and a training top will make up your training day fit. Since it’s spring, there will still be some cold days, so make sure you purchase a good-quality jacket and some cold gear like hats and gloves before the season begins.
Game Day
The first game day will arrive quickly, so make sure you are prepared! Double-check to make sure your game-day shorts and jersey are clean and ready to be worn. The base layer you have for training days can also be worn during game days. If you’re playing on a colder day, make sure you have your cold gear ready.
An important and helpful tip is to bring an extra pair of socks if you are playing in the rain. Trust me, you do not want to go to a rainy game without an additional pair of dry socks.
Every Day
As a soccer player, there are items you won’t use for every practice or game but are still good to have for everyday use.
Indoor shoes are a great purchase if you have to practice indoors one day because of bad weather. Grabbing them before the season starts allows you to be prepared for anything to happen ahead of time. Another good shoe you should grab is some comfy slides. You can wear these to school, to practice, to your friends, to games, anywhere really.
Grab some fan gear to represent your favorite team, some new sweatpants or sweatshirts, and some new crew socks before the season starts! You’re going to want to be comfy during the days you have off, so you might as well purchase some new items before the season begins.
No one said preparing for a soccer season was easy, but we are here to help! When you head to Soccer Post, bring our checklist with you to ensure you have everything for your upcoming season.
