The Washington Spirit will return to the playoffs for the first time since their 2021 Championship title.

They are the second team to clinch a playoff spot this season.

The Spirit currently sit in second place in the NWSL with a record of 14-5-2. They already broke the record for franchise wins,13, total number of goals scored, 39, and passed 40 points for the first time in history. They still have five games remaining in the regular season.

With the help from Assistant Head Coach Adrián González, who was previously interim head coach, and new Head Coach Jonatan Giráldez, this team has put on a show for fans all season.

Young super star Trinity Rodman found her footing in the professional league. She has already set a single season career record of eight goals and six assists. Rodman is in the top five goal scorers in the league so far this season, is included in talks for NWSL MVP and nominated for a Ballon d’Or.

Goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury has four clean sheets with help from the defense, three of them on the road.

Croix Bethune, who won Rookie of the Month four times this season played a huge role in the Spirit’s success. Unfortunately she had a season-ending injury in September. Bethune is still considered a front runner for Rookie of the Year.

Ouleymata Sarr has been huge for the Spirit this year. With eight goals on the season, she remains in the top five goal scorers in the league, tied with teammate Rodman.

Washington has five more games left in the regular season: Sep. 27 at Angel City FC, Oct. 6 at Orlando Pride, Oct. 13 vs Racing Louisville at home, Oct. 20 vs Chicago Red Stars at home and Nov. 2 at North Carolina Courage. The playoffs will begin on Nov. 9.

After a promising season, will the Spirit be able to bring home their second NWSL Championship?
