USWNT legend Kelley O’Hara is hanging up her boots at the end of this NWSL season. Gotham FC will honor her legendary career after the team’s last regular season home game on Sunday, Oct. 20.
O’Hara played for 11 years in the NWSL. She won two NWSL championships, including Gotham’s first ever championship last season. She is a two-time World Cup champion and an Olympic gold medalist with the USWNT. She played over 10,000 minutes for the US National Team and is one of 12 players to be named to four different World Cup rosters.
O’Hara is one of the grittiest, most competitive players and is an example of a true leader on and off the field. Her absence will not go unnoticed as she was a one of a kind player.
She was a leader in the fight for equal pay and an advocate for women in sports. Her podcast, The Player’s Pod, talks about the lives of athletes, especially female athletes. She also takes part in the Just Women’s Soccer podcast, which is part of the Just Women’s Sports company.
Fans in attendance at O’Hara’s last regular season home match will receive a special fan giveaway to celebrate her. A post-game ceremony will celebrate the closing of a monumental career, with O’Hara surrounded by her supportive fans and teammates. Fans are invited to take part in the postgame celebration congratulating O’Hara on all she has accomplished in her professional career, more details about the postgame celebrations will be announced on Gotham FC’s social media pages.
Fan fest will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday October 20, and the match against Orlando FC will begin at 5 p.m. ET.
