Meet the adidas Trionda

The adidas Trionda, the official match ball of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, is finally here! Let’s dive deep into the most anticipated soccer ball of the year.

It all begins with the name. When you break down the word trionda, ‘tri’ means three, and ‘onda’ means waves. The overall aesthetic of the ball reflects these ideas.

The design of the ball goes deep. adidas crafted the ball using a new four-panel construction. The design mimics a wave, while the actual construction is designed to enhance performance. There are debossed lines along the embossed country icons. These grooves in the ball produce peak in-flight stability when the ball is traveling through the air.

Each panel represents one of the hosts of the tournament: red represents Canada, blue represents the United States, and green represents Mexico. Along with the colors, each section features imagery: a star for the USA, a maple leaf for Canada, and an eagle for Mexico.

On the ball, you can see sections where the colors come together to form a triangle. This represents three countries coming together to host the tournament for the first time.

Even the logo placement was strategic. The adidas logo is on the red panel, the FIFA World Cup logo is on the blue panel, and the name of the ball is on the green panel. This shows the cooperation of the three nations as part of the tournament.

One final touch in the design is the gold embellishments that can be seen throughout the ball. These little details pay homage to the FIFA World Cup trophy.

The embossed icons on the ball are designed to enhance overall gameplay performance. It provides an improved grip on the ball in wet or humid weather conditions, particularly when a player is dribbling or taking a shot.

Ball Tiers

The ball comes in various tiers for players of different ages and skill levels.

The highest tier is the official match/pro ball. This is the ball that will be used in the tournament matches by the professional teams. These balls are thermally bonded with a seamless construction and feature enhanced texturing for optimal performance on the field. It is made from the best materials, allowing the ball to have a long life.

The competition ball tier is very similar to the OMB, minus the price tag. This ball features the same panel construction and design but lacks the enhanced texturing found on the top-tier ball.

Then there is the league/training tier, which is made for more casual play. They resemble the official match balls but are made from different materials and cost less. They are typically machine-stitched, which is less expensive but won’t have the same superior performance as the top two tiers.

The club ball is ideal for beginners and players learning the fundamentals of the game. This ball is available in all sizes, so whether you are six and want to start learning the game or 56 and looking to get started, this is the perfect ball for you.

The mini and mini+ balls are made for fun. These balls will not be used in games or even practice. The regular mini ball can be used to work on foot skills, but in terms of practicing, that is as far as it goes. The visual design from professional ball carries over to these smaller sizes. These are the lowest-priced items and are typically bought more as collectibles.

With the biggest tournament in the world coming up, now is the perfect time to grab the adidas Trionda at your local Soccer Post!
