While everyone was drawn into the FIFA World Cup 2026™, the biggest clubs in the world quietly dropped serious heat. And if there’s one theme tying this season’s drops together, it's nostalgia. Several of the European giants reached deep into their archives to reimagine some of their most iconic kits. Here is a list, in no particular order, of some of our favorites.
Liverpool, YNWA.
Going full retro, Liverpool revived their iconic 1989-91 “Candy” era jersey. Featuring triangular fleck patterns one could recognize miles away, an on-brand deep red base, and clean modern details. Some of you Reds will instantly recognize this iconic jersey from the Kenny Dalglish title-winning days! If there is one thing Liverpool always seem to nail, it is the brief. This jersey, along with many others, is the perfect example of how to reimagine an icon.
Barcelona, Més que un club.
Barcelona have historically always stayed true to their traditional blue/red Blaugrana identity. This year, however, they threw on a clean architectural twist. Rather than going for their minimal blue/red stripes, as they have been for the past 3 seasons, we were surprised to see a red-to-blue gradient in the form of several rows. The overall visuals of this new kit are meant to go hand in hand with their newly renovated home, Spotify Camp Nou. Will this be the jersey in which they make history and end their 6-year UCL drought?
Juventus, Fino Alla Fine
Following last year’s ill-received “barcode” jersey, Juventus decided to stick with what the people want – Un aspetto raffinato, a refined look. Right off the bat, any true Juventus fan will notice one striking detail. Gold. For the first time since the 2020/21 season, Juventus uses Gold accents throughout the jersey. This instantly elevates the aesthetics into something luxurious and elegant. Of course, this would not be what it is without their signature black-and-white base, black stripes, and a classy polo collar.
¡Real Madrid y nada más!
Rather than raiding the archives, Real Madrid decided to try something different. And try something they did! Though they stuck with their signature white base, this kit features colors and accents never seen before. The collar and cuffs consist of a diamond-like dark green pattern meant to resemble their crown. The real surprise? The unexpected deep red stripes along the sleeves. Combine all of these details, and you now have an instant classic. Could this be the trophy-winning jersey remembered by millions?
Manchester City, Superbia in Proelio.
Last but not least, the Manchester City Home Jersey. This kit remained grounded and true to the Man City identity. They didn’t revive an icon or reinvent the wheel, but rather paid homage to the club’s past in a beautiful manner. The blue-white gradient we see throughout the jersey represents all the past shades of blue used by the Cityzens. With this new kit, Manchester City shows that sometimes it is not about being flashy or overly inventive. Sometimes you just have to be intentional.
The Verdict
The 2026/27 season was clearly the year of the throwback, and the ones who embraced their history came out on top. Regardless of who you are repping, these are undoubtedly some of the best kits this season so far.
