The NWSL hopes this new and exciting weekend will enhance fan engagement and increase fans' passion for their teams. Rivalry games always attract a crowd, so what better way to make the NWSL more exciting than to create an entire weekend dedicated to rivalry games?

This rivalry weekend is already guaranteed to bring excitement as teams like Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit meet. Just last season, these two teams met in the semifinals of the 2024 NWSL Playoffs. Washington ended up advancing to the finals as penalty kicks decided the game in the end.

Another classic rivalry, and perhaps one of the most exciting in the NWSL, is Portland Thorns FC vs. Seattle Reign FC. This historic rivalry promises to be an entertaining matchup, as Seattle currently sits in fifth place in the standings, with Portland in sixth.

Since the NWSL is still growing, rivalries and the promise of an exciting atmosphere will help excel that growth. This addition to the NWSL season is a surefire way to attract new fans and expand viewership.

With teams returning from the international break, the buzz around the NWSL might be slower. But, with the excitement around this weekend, the spotlight is guaranteed to be back on the NWSL.

Be sure to catch your team playing this weekend!
