EPL Week 3 Recap

EPL Week 3 Recap

The third week of the EPL has come to a close and things are starting to get interesting.

Manchester City still sits atop the table as they have won all three games and have a goal differential of seven, nine goals for and two goals against. Erling Haaland netted his second hat trick in just three games as City defeated West Ham United 3-1.

Haaland set a new EPL record for most goals through three games. He has scored seven goals, 77% of all City goals scored this season so far. He became the second player in Premier League history to score hat tricks in consecutive games.

Liverpool is tied for first with City after defeating Manchester United 3-0. Liverpool’s Luis Diaz scored two more goals against a struggling United team. With one win and two losses to begin their season, many are starting to wonder what the issue with United is.

Top teams Arsenal and Brighton squared off on Saturday, ending in a 1-1 tie. Arsenal’s Declan Rice was handed a red card as the second half started, which completely changed the game for Arsenal as they tried to defend their 1-0 lead for another 45 minutes. In the end, the red card was enough to give Brighton an opportunity to tie the game and have the teams settle for one point.

Everton looked like they were going to find their first win of the 2024-25 season until a late surge from Bournemouth stunned the last place team. With three goals in the last 10 minutes of the game, Bournemouth was the one who grabbed their first win of the season.

Crystal Palace collected their first point of the season as they tied Chelsea 1-1 on Sunday. With one win, one tie and one loss for Chelsea, question marks have begun to appear as this is a game they will wish they walked away with three points.

Southampton continue to look for their first point in the EPL as Brentford pulls off an impressive 3-1 win despite Southampton having more possession. Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo added two goals to help Brentford pull off the win.

With week three in the books, some teams have shown promise while others have left people questioning if changes are needed already.
